Would it be possible to charge a car battery?

If it took an alternator of a car and hooked to a battery of 12 V car, then connects an electric motor (powered by the battery) for the alternator and had all three in a circle, is the battery have sufficient power to to run the engine and the engine would have enough power and RPM to run the alternator and charge the battery?

The first answer is not, if they could have invented perpetual motion. If the battery has a certain amount of stored energy when it becomes the engine power is lost (the engine will be approximately 80-90% efficiency) with the same lost in the generator and give approximate conversion of 60-80%. The batteries will be as ineffective in the post-cycle discharge, only the combination of motor-generator, but have not found a specific value. However, each time you charge the battery is heated and the heat losses due to energy in the charge cycle. Along with all these losses could be electrical wiring, but would be minimal compared to other losses.
